The Boeing 787

The Boeing 787 is a modernised aircraft manufactured and designed by the Boeing company. It proceeded with its first flight on December 15 2009 and the first airline to operate the aircraft was ANA (All Nippion Airlines) based in Japan.

The 787 is truely an intriguing aircraft. It enhances many modern technologies in order to improve ones travel experience whilst it is more friendly on the environment and reduces the spending of airlines. The key foundation to this advanced possibility is the use of composite materials in aircraft construction. In regards to the 787 Dreamliner, we are referring to carbon fibre. Carbon fibre is an astonishing material, especially regarding the fact it is so commonly used in newly designed and introduced aircraft. Carbon fibre is a type of reinforced plastic, yet it is numerically superior in comparison to traditional materials, AKA aluminium. Carbon fibre is 20% lighter than aluminium and significantly stronger. The 787 contains around 80% of Carbon fibre construction. This allows for a reduction in fuel requirement.

The 787 can place superior to its older competitors, it's main advantage being it's astonishing ability to reduce weight. The 787 is sucsessful in reducing its weight in some of the most idiosyncratic ways; a prime example of this is the disregard for moveable window shades in contrast for illumination control to dim and lighten the windows. This is affective in that it a) reduces weight and b) decreases the observable clutter, this creates a measurable enhancement of ones quality of flight and onboard experience via creating the illusion of more space. Interesting.

The final point to brag about in this blog post regarding the Dreamliner is some of the engineering capabilities. Can you recall when you endure a long haul flight, disembarking the aircraft feeling "groggy" and in general discomfort? Well, the reason for these (and similar) feelings is due to the state of air onboard. The 787 effectively reduces the "groggy feeling" via the excessive filtration of the air onboard. The air is filtered and the ratio of available oxygen in the air is increased by ~30%. This is significant in enhancing ones experience. The air onboard is also filtered at a higher frequency to decrease alcahol fumes in the cabin.

Sorry, this is a short post and maybe a little random... But I am struggling to stay awake. Lol. Any questions about the 787 please post in comments! Thanks :)
